Two days after the assault on a man whom the group’s founder, Curtis Sliwa, misidentified as a migrant, law enforcement officials said they were looking into the incident.

Curtis Sliwa, a former NYC mayoral candidate and leader of an “anti-crime” group with the vigilante-sounding name the Guardian Angels and a vigilante-looking red-beret-topped uniform… are being investigated by New York police and the Manhattan district attorney for allegedly committing a crime live on FOX News. Sliwa was being interviewed by Sean Hannity, helping Hannity promote the “immigrants do crimes” narrative, when some of his followers stepped off-camera and after a moment Sliwa said, “some of our guys have taken down one of the migrant guys.”

For the record, it turned out that the person was a Bronx resident, not a migrant, and that Sliwa’s accusation of shoplifting was also false. NYC Mayor Adams and NY Governor Hochul have come out against vigilante violence, both once again rushing to do the bare minimum (without, of course, acknowledging any rôle they may have had in creating an unsafe environment for migrants in the first place).
