    “What’s a pirate’s favorite letter?”

    “r/”

“Aye, he liked the r/, but it’s the c/ that he really loves.”

Not sure where to ask this, so I’ll ask here. Linking to pirate sites (not content) is okay here as I understand it. However my account is with Lemmy.world, which in its “rules” specifically states “Protect our community from harassment, malicious or illegal content”. Would I technically be at the whim of Lemmy.world by linking to pirate sites, or do I have some leeway here?

This kind of Piracy (not to be confused with the whole ship plundering one) is not a crime in most of the World, rather it’s a Civil Law affair, so roughly in the same basket as breach-of-contract.

I suspect the whole “illegal content” stuff is about things like child porn or bomb making instructions, not breach of copyright.

Common law legislations also have piracy laws? I would rather say it’s more of a western kind of affair, since a lot of countries in the east + africa (especially underdeveloped or that only recently developed) have yet to sign international treaties on enforcing piracy law.

Having the law is one thing, but of course most countries that aren’t on western europe or North America barely enforce piracy laws. (For example look at the entirety of south america, where official huge bus companies will just play pirated movies on the screens)

I think when they say ‘illegal content’ they mean, like, drugs and terrorism. Piracy probably ranks pretty low on the list.

Now yes the definition of piracy technically fits in the definition of ‘illegal content’, but just because two definitions intersect doesn’t mean you will get the logical consequences. The word of the rules is one thing, the rules in practice is another, so i think you can get away with a lot regardless of instance.

Besides, do the rules apply to the instance where you have your account, or to the instance where you’re posting/commenting? I genuinely don’t know

do the rules apply to the instance where you have your account, or to the instance where you’re posting/commenting?

That is essentially what I was asking. It kind of seems like it’s both, but I’m no fediverse expert.

I guess it really just depends how much of a stickler the lemmy.world mods are, and/or if they have any way of finding out I’m linking to stuff like that.

      Replying for visibility!

(In case it is useful, at least on the instance I use, vlemmy, the mod said that as long as it is not on local it doesn’t matter but that was regarding a porn rule)

Hey, quick question for anyone who can help me.

My Qbittorrent refuses to seed for some reason, I have really good internet speed and wanna help with seeding but it just constantly says 0 upload even though the limiter is set to infinite.

    Any solutions?

Mine is the same way for most things. I seed everything for at least a month and am generally lucky if I get a .4 ratio on anything. Granted I’m on private trackers with minimum ratios so everyone is generally really good at seeding. When Hogwarts dropped I I got like a 10 ratio, on a 90 gig torrent, before I got a letter from my ISP about and shut it down.

We need WWE/AEW and UFC streams to watch if we missed it live. Also, what are the live stream sites for these shows? The mega thread doesn’t have reliable or currently active options. Soap2day was the best at this.

Has there been a replacement for The Trove? Last time I looked all the links following the take down no longer worked.

Currently, the .co domain is experiencing a DNS resolver issue (comes and goes). I tested it on Cloudflare, Quad9, and NextDNS, all with Firefox.

Edit: I’ve changed all the links to the .org version for now.

Not sure if there was a change, but the co in the links only works when swapped to org

This could be intentional to avoid something I didn’t know about. Hopefully it is just a mistake or unknown change though.
