Summary

The United Kingdom scrambled two Royal Air Force (RAF) Typhoon fighter jets to intercept a Russian Tu-142 reconnaissance aircraft near British airspace over the North Sea on Thursday.

These incidents are not isolated occurrences. Recently, Italy and Norway intercepted Russian planes near the Baltic Sea and Norwegian coast, while Japan and the United States responded to Russian aircraft near their respective airspaces in previous months.

These actions reflect the heightened tensions that have emerged amid Russia’s ongoing invasion of Ukraine.

This happened like every other day during the Cold War. On both sides. It’s basically the military equivalent of trolling.

It still does. I have no idea why we bother paying articles like this any attention. Then again I suppose it is worth reporting on that it happens generally, and I don’t have any suggestions for how to make news outlets just do an annual summary

They report every time there are military activities or war games near a contested border too. Which literally happens constantly.

It’s kinda funny, though. Just journalists doing their routine job of reporting the RAF doing their routine job about the VVS doing their routine job.
