Oh I have a degree in economics I can answer this one. Brexit.
More generally: tories
I have no background in economics and I can also answer this question. It’s Brexit.
Britain isn’t poor. It’s one of the richest countries in the world, the problem is the distribution of the wealth.
The elite have done a brilliant job of turning different groups of poor people against eachother whilst they pick your pockets.
Don’t worry about the CEOs that have earnt your yearly salary by the 6th of Jan if we have refugees or a benefits claimant with a smart phone.
Benefiting claimant with smartphone trick… How does it work every time… Jfc, whoever invited it really knows something about basic human psychology.

This is not very casual!
Have you tried reading it whilst reclined in a deckchair?
Seems a better fit for one of the UK politics communities.
Agreed, doesn’t feel very casual.
Or the general United Kingdom one.

In short, Brexit
More generally: tories
Thats Brexit.
Brexit was a symptom of tories, tories are a more malignant and disease
At this point Brexit will truly end with the UK splitting up into separate countries, and England being the last one to realize its over.
Doubtful. As its own nation Scotland would probably not do very well for demographic and economic macro reasons. It wouldn’t be eligible for EU membership, for example. This at least is what I’ve heard analysis say. I’d prefer it wasn’t true, so I’m happy to be proven wrong.
Irish reunification of 2024 coming in hot…
The queen died so they buried all the money with her. Charles is living off the money he made stripping.
Must feel odd, as a stripper, to encourage people to slip portraits of your mum into your pants.
it’s true, i was his customer.
I’d give him 3/5 stars.Sausage Fingers.
Need I say more?I never touched him
A curse upon your house for putting this image in my brain.
Hang on, this isn’t really casual, this is a political post. There are places for political posts and they’re important, but if it’s allowed here and we want casual UK discussion where do we go now? Someone create an “ActualUKCasual”?
Did you try reporting it?
I did, there was a glitch which made me wonder whether it went through though. It’s pretty obvious that this doesn’t belong although I’m aware that there are problems at lemmy.world
There’s a lot of people on this thread saying “they” which feels weird on a UK casual community 🤔
They brexited and kept importing cheap labor. Its not a surprise that they’re so poor, or that the british working class is turning to the right.
You’re not wrong but it has been going on for 15 years. There were issues before Brexit.

I hate that OP has inflicted such a non-casual thread on us. But I do love this reference.
Need to watch this again sometime soon
I think the carrot infinitely more fascinating than the geranium. The carrot has mystery. Flowers are essentially tarts. Prostitutes for the bees. There is a certain je ne sais quoi - oh, so very special - about a firm, young carrot…
Yeah, but it’s definitely getting worse. They’re worse off than Mississippi. That’d make anyone mad.
Dag, yo.
