An NBC News article details the ongoing saga in Eagle Pass, Texas, a location which was originally used by federal forces to process asylum claims, and which Greg Abbott ordered taken over to deny the feds’ ability to do that. The heart of this story: “Local officials in Eagle Pass have been overwhelmed on two fronts: the rising number of migrants and the state’s response to those migrants.”

Of course, with such a high number of border crossings, a small town is going to be overwhelmed. But everything Abbott and his forces have done in the name of helping has seemed to hurt Eagle Pass. This includes National Guard forces deployed under Operation Lone Star damaging local infrastructure in a way the town can ill-afford to repair.

This is part of a pattern we’ve noted with Operation Lone Star: the only person it seems to help is Greg Abbott. It certainly hurts the towns, cities, and counties in Texas whose governor he’s supposed to be, all while actively threatening the lives of vulnerable children and adults coming to this country to seek a better life.
