This less lethal launcher from UMX, a sub brand of the German company Umarex, has a built in range finder tied to a laser rangefinder that regulates an electronically controlled valve to ensure a projectile is launched pneumatically to hit a target at no greater than 30 joules of impact force.
This ensures that sufficient force is applied to receive the desired effect while mitigating the risk of causing unnecessary damage.
It is designed to fire a variety of capsules including one containing a pepper spray like powder and one that has an ultraviolet markings dye.

That’s actually really cool! I like seeing developments being made in specifically not killing people.
While there isn’t as many unique less lethal designs (compared to lethal) it seems to me like there’s a greater level of diversity in the way they function, which is always interesting.
How long until someone realizes if they aim far and milliseconds before pulling the trigger aim closer they can get a far shot power at a close target.
It doesn’t work that way and it has a limiter anyway.

I’m less enthusiastic about the development of less lethal weapon.
It’s great if it can be used to replace the use of more lethal weapons but in practice it tends to add up to other weapons.
