All over the world, board game groups meet and play board games of all kinds, so let’s talk about it!

i’ve been eyeing Final Girl, but I can’t pull the trigger to get it. I’ve been away from boardgames for a good while, aside from some occasional LotR LCG.

However, I’ve been having a true blast with tabletop rpgs.

I’m hoping to get a play-by-post discord channel fro Starforged (Ironsworn spinoff) by using Stargazer. Stargazer is a webapp that helps you run all the oracles (random tables) for encounters, places and even characters. It can also help create a world-seed that the players can fill in with their own ideas. So, I’ve been thinking of spawning the world, some characters and initial setups, sharing the files on a discord and then starting gm-less play from there.

We’ve been playing a good deal of Delta Green too, which is a x-files-meets-mib feeling horror rpg. The campaign we are playing is a called Impossible Landscapes, a series of modules dealing with psychedelic and existential horror. We got the first bit done, and are moving onwards. It’s been a blast to play, and not even that hard, given the reputation the module has (for the gm). Sure, things are vague and quite psychedelic all the time, and there’s werid stuff with time travel etc, but nothing that good notekeeping hasn’t been able to alleviate. Then again, I have around 16 pages of notes after 6 sessions.

And to top it off, I’ve finally landed a Vampire the Masquerade group! It was my dream game as a teen, being all angsty and moody, and filled with vast amounts of edgy lore. And now, being able to fully immerse into the bleak and dangerous world as adults, has been great! Playing up all the hamminess, the bleak grimdarkness of the vampiric curse and even the eroticisim has elevated the play for the group. The closer we get to Ann Rices novels, the better the play seems to get.

Got a play of the new-ish Splotter title Horseless Carriage last weekend. It’s excellent and combines an interesting spatial puzzle with a competitive shared space. I think 4 players is the sweet spot for player count, but it’s good at 3 and 5 just as well. As much as I like it, I’m not very good at it. Still, it’s the fun that counts!

Let’s see this month has been a good one for board games. The wife and I played Splendor and Terra Mystica. She always beats me in Splendor, I don’t know why but I always lose by one 1 point every time! On the heavier/wargames side of things I’ve been playing Death in the Trenches had to take a two week break while I was out of town but I’m about 2/3 done with it and it’s been an exciting back and forth. Also have plans to play Pacific War and War Room later in the month.

I’ve been playing Castle Panic w/the Wizard’s Tower expansion for a few months now. I recently picked up the Dark Titan expansion and am trying to convince my gaming partners to give it a go more often.

Right now, finally had some time to play an old birthday present: Great Western Trail. Decided it’s good but not quite my favorite.

When I can I usually like to play Root or Aeon’s End these days.

Haven’t had as much time as we’d like recently so sneaking in games of Cascadia and Wingspan where we can. Mostly play 2 player.

With my son: Claim by Scott Almes! I’m not sure how deep it really could get, since I’ve only played it with a child. So far it looks okay.

When I have some time alone, I’m enjoying my first steps in Marvel Champions! I’ve never been into Marvel, but people on reddit told me, it’s a great thematic immersive I should try before Arkham Horror LCG, especially if I don’t have that much time per session. It’s surprisingly good!

We’re hoping to get Pandemic Season Zero out of the way soon so we can focus on other games.

Mostly Carcasson or Munchkin if everyone is up to some long(relatively) games. If we talking about short sessions, Red7 is a fun card game.

Never as much as I’d like, but I get in a game of Wingspan and Splendor every now and again between a big froshaven campaign. Finally retired my first Death Walker, and into the Deepwraith!

How is the Deep Rock Galactic game? Love the video game and the board game looked interesting but I never pulled the trigger.

We only have one session under our belt, but initial impressions were pretty good. I too love DRG, but I was sceptical that the boardgame would capture the feeling good enough, but I think they managed it. The rules are good enough, it’s got a “light” complexity (warning: I play a lot of rule heavy board games so ymmv) Quality of minis are very good. The only thing I worry about is replay ability. Its got quite a few missions you can play, but it felt a tad shallow so I’m not sure if it can keep our attention for years…

        Anyways, my 3 cents on it… :D

Thanks for the input! Yeah I play a lot of very rule heavy games too so I would probably view it as light as well. Might have to put it on my ever growing list of games to buy!
