I don’t think this is true. Or… I guess it is true, but I think the security benefit from not running JS is overhyped. Most vulnerabilities in the browser don’t involve the JS interpreter, since its security gets a lot of attention and there are a lot of other components which are equally capable of compromising everything as well. You could use Tor to keep your identity private, use an ad blocker to remove tracking which doesn’t need to involve JS, keep up-to-date on security which is critical to do anyway, and then disable JS on top of that but at that point I think you would be getting around a 10% improvement in security or something, when the other factors are a lot more significant.
Maybe I shouldn’t say it’s always a bad idea, but disabling it and then going around complaining about sites that don’t work sounds a lot like a self-created problem to me. A lot of sites don’t work without JS.

Its all about phrasing. They are just having an extended layover because their flight is delayed. Boeing also provides courtesy, in-flight door removal.

To be fair, it’s incredibly hard to get into orbit, and it’s relatively easy to get anywhere from there. The fact we can get into orbit pretty safely, reliably, and consistently while struggling to do stuff that’s so much easier well is impressive.
I mean, Boeing barely does, we have also shot countless things everywhere in the solar system… Heck, even Starship reached a stable orbit in like the 3rd test flight or so (practically, and throttled shortly before, so the thing returns). It’s hard, but far from impossible with a competent team and strict management

I’m sure they’re just thrilled. We’re probably going to learn all kinds of things about what happens to a human during an extended spaceflight from their ruined bodies.
I mean the article says that they will have only been up there for 10 months, and most space station missions last 6 months up to a year, so we have plenty of other examples of people who have been up there as long or longer.
The radiation exposure in space is insane. Their health did certainly going to be noticeable.

So, real nuts and bolts question here. How does this affect their pay? Are they being paid extra to be up there so long? I would want overtime.

Seems like that could breed resentment in the minds of astronauts who get stuck, like Butch and Suni. As cool as working in space would be, it’s still work. Combined with the toll that microgravity takes on the body, and missing my loved ones, I’d be wanting some “extra” compensation for my time and health.
I looked up astronaut pay and it says it’s between $100-180,000. Somewhat depressing that people can make more sitting in their house writing code working remote than someone who is risking their life on space missions. I guess you do get food and housing paid for that whole time, but wow.

Yes you can. Who is going to make you work? You can resign and just do the minimum maintenance work until the next crew change (which will probably be expedited).
