Polish opposition leader Donald Tusk declared the beginning of a new era after three opposition parties appeared to have won enough votes in Sunday’s election to oust the governig party.
Something no one is mentioning is how good this is for the EU. This gives the EU the opportunity to make some much needed reforms. It allows them to put into place controls for governments who fall out of line with democracy. And this is the second recent election in the EU where the ultra right have lost when they were expected to win (Spain being the other). Even with the right winger parties elected recently (Sweden and I think Germany but I’m not clear on their current situation), it is likely reforms can still be made. Hopefully they do it and do it quickly.

Germany, we’re still in free fall. Regional elections (Bavaria and Hesse) last week both saw the right and far-right gain around 10%.
