Apparently, bringing up China being authoritarian is now “bigotry”.
I’ve noticed this lately in a lot of communities I’m in, most of which that have nothing to do with politics and are centered around Linux/technology. Why are people suddenly getting personally hurt over criticism against their government? Thats the wildest thing I’ve ever seen, and for some reason it’s becoming more of a thing.
The funny thing is, it’s not even their government. They’re defending an idealized version that only exists in their heads. As far as I can tell, the primary developers are European.

It became a meme to depict Xi Jinping as Winnie the Pooh, and China / Xi’s response was to completely ban all depictions or mentions of Winnie the Pooh.

Because he looks a lot like Winnie the Pooh. The shape of his face and body, his gait, his smile, it’s really uncanny.
I once saw a comment on Hexbear about it being racist to call Xi Winnie the Pooh. I got confused and asked why would that be racist. I got laughed at for not seeing that he’s clearly called that because Pooh is yellow, which is also a derogatory term for asians. And this never even crossed my mind until then, I always assumed he’s called that cause he literally looks like Pooh and wears red (figuratively). Are they reaching or am I wrong?

See, a lot of muppets have that nasty tendency to point to random people or things, and claim that they’re from a despicable group: racists, transphobes, paedophiles, so goes on (“the witches”).
And those muppets do this through insane troll logic, zero due diligence, making shit up = assuming on the spot, Chewbacca defence, dogpiling, distorting what you said, so goes on. (And if you correctly highlight that there are no witches there, they’ll start screeching “WHY ARE YOU DEFENDING WITCHES?”)
That’s on the whole internet, mind you. And even offline. But for some reason, it’s really common among Hexbear users. And this Xi = Pooh meme is a prime example of that; they want to point people using this meme and scream “WAAAH, YOU’RE RACIST!”, even if the bloody meme was created by Chinese people, and the criticism is not really related to race. Later they scream “DONE, WE DID IT
REDDITHEXBEAR, WE DEFEATED RACISM! EDIT WOW THANKS FOR THEGOLDPIG POOP BALLS, KIND STRANGER!”I’m fairly certain that they’re full of GoOd InTeNtIoNs when they do this. And they should be paving Hell with those intentions because they’re making things worse for every bloody body, except the witches - that now got a believable cover: “nooo, I’m no witch, they’re just reaching. I think you have not read my comments. I do not care about Israel or Gaza itself, but I do care about people and sticking to the truth and proving context. I’m just of the opinion that every government in the world is a pile of trash working on hundreds of years old systems built on old technology. They all lie and do horrible things to and in the name of their citizens, who all mostly want to be left alone and have a decent life. Anyone who spends their time Staning for a government is wasting their time, imho.
Also, we’re literally just experiencing the same process that happened with the invention of the printing press. Once enough printing presses existed, and a significant number of people who previously did not have a “voice” suddenly had one, there was a long period where nobody really knew what to believe among the competing new ideas where there had previously been nothing. It will take a generation for us to figure out the internet. McLuhan was right, we jump right into new communications mediums without studying them or their impact on societies.

Hell, even monarchistic governments existed for some type of “protection and support.” We so need new ideas, both capitalism and communism are old, dead ideas that have valuable aspects that should evolve. But that’s just what capitalists and communists hate, is evolving. Communists already seem to think Marx figured out “the solution” even though Marx thought a true Marxist society would need to be in perpetual revolution within itself, because there is no end to history.
If we are not taking the old ideas and improving on them, what the hell are we doing other than stagnating? I think that’s the real issue, stagnation of ideas, a lack of social imagination for anything better. In the same way capitalists can see an apocalyptic end of the world but they can’t imagine that post-world existing without capitalism, it seems the die-hard communists similarly can’t imagine a future without communism.
