No mate. The others were always competitive: McLaren with Heikennen and Coulthard were definitely faster cars as was the Williams of Senna and Hill.
Shumi’s Benetton was quick but not the quickest outright.
Same with the Jordan. Way slower than the rest but he was still way up the field.
Villneuve’s BAR also finally had the issues worked out and were fast.
There might have been a year, max 2, at Ferrari after a few years where they had the top engine but not by that much.
Overall he always performed better than the car was capable of. It was his skill and determination that got him there.
Max is a good driver but the car is super easy to drive as well and is the fastest on the grid.
Shumi never had the best car on the grid and they were harder to drive. Competition was fiercer so his 50 were alot harder to achieve.
At this point Max is probably half asleep in the car because it’s so easy to drive.
