Schumer did manage to get GOP leadership to agree to hold a vote to ensure that the D.C.'s budget did not suffer a $1 billion cut. The House’s bill was written to include the budget reduction, sparking concern.
As posted in a different thread:
I don’t care if it’s cloture or the actual bill itself…
There should be zero Dems voting “yes” on any-fucking-thing these MAGAt bastards want.
Blatant and complete obstruction is the only way to play this hand for the foreseeable future.
Those Dems that do vote yes… 🖕 🖕 🖕 🖕 🖕
Well no, when MAGA wants something that’s actually good, there’s no reason to oppose it.
The Republican leadership just instructed the DOJ to put LGBTQ+ activist groups on a fuckin’ watch-list like they’re goddamn terrorists (and they’re gonna fuckin’ do it). The Trump Administration is doing everything possible to break the US Constitution when it comes to the freedom of expression, the freedom of and from religion, the Presidential Term Limit, and birthright citizenship which regardless how you personally feel about it is baked into the US Constitution.
So why don’t you tell me what they’re doing that you find so goddamn appealing. Because I just don’t get it. Maybe I’m too fucking stupid, but I just don’t see it.
Yo, I need sources on that first sentence. Asking for a friend.
I agree with you what is being done to freedom of expression is outrageous. I’m not aware of changes with freedom of religion, nor presidential term limits. There’s a case for arguing birthright citizenship doesn’t apply to people born here with illegal parents, it will be debated in court.
To answer your question, Trump during his first term passed legislation to enhance protection of animals. Recently he brokered a ceasefire deal in Gaza. A reasonable person can oppose most of his actions and also acknowledge when he does good ones.
And just when do you truly think any MAGAt will propose something “good”…???
Don’t be daft.
🙄
No income tax on people earning less than $150k for example.
Trump has also passed animal protection laws during his first term.
Yes, the rich fucking love no-income-tax schemes. Because that’s always followed by more-sales-tax-to-replace-lost-revenue schemes, which is demonstrably proven to move the tax burden from the obscenely wealthy to the other end of the economic spectrum.
Our $800 billion war machine isn’t going to stop just because 80% of Americans don’t pay taxes anymore.
You realize the rich would still be paying income taxes, as they make more than $150k… and they would be paying those sales taxes too.
The rich don’t pay income taxes already.
The top 1% pay 40% of all federal income taxes.
Pfft…
Anyone looking seriously/hopefully/longingly at those pitiful distractions is simply missing the bigger MAGAt picture/goal of entirely subverting US democracy.
That’s just bread and circuses.
🙄
You asked for good policies, I gave you good policies. You want to pretend everything MAGA does is bad? Go for it, I’m not stopping you if you don’t care about being accurate.
Yes.
In my world, the preponderance of MAGAt goals are bad so they are ultimately and entirely bad.
You’re simply attempting: “Look, here’s a couple of good things in a big bucket of bad. So obviously they can’t be all bad”.
Definition of bread and circuses.
You might want to leave your world and join the real world back, where not everything is black and white.

Republicans have joined Democrats to vote many bipartisan bills under president Biden.
That is absolutely not why Trump is president now. Trump is president now because the Biden Harris administration has been unapologetically providing military, financial and diplomatic support to Israel while it committed a genocide, and also because it refused to conduct an open primary.
Man, if you think that was genocide. Just wait till you see what happens with forced relocation. Gaza will be stained with blood for years.
Trump has brokered a ceasefire deal in a matter of a couple weeks, whereas Biden refused to do so in over a year.
Yes, let’s wait and see. The crazy talks about forcing the people of Gaza to relocate are just that, crazy talks. Let’s focus on actions rather than words.

Trump didn’t broker shit and Israel broke the ceasefire on day fucking one.
Don’t bother, they’re a propagandist.
Actually, DO bother. Can’t change their minds but the bullshit deserves to be challenged.
Steve Witkoff, Trump’s envoy, is the one who brokered the ceasefire deal. It’s not perfect but it’s magnitudes better than under Biden.
controlled opposition within controlled opposition. Aka rotating villains.
Anything I would have to say would get me permanently banned from the site for advocating violence.
Remember, as Napoleon Bonaparte said to Wellesley, Duke of Wellington, “Violence never solved anything.”
I don’t think it’s time for violence. It’s time for new leadership.
Of course it’s not time for violence; violence have never solved anything. Asking nicely and remembering to say ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ will surely convince them to step down.
Don’t forget to say “pwease” and “tank you”! At this point, I’m shocked but not surprised that the Democrats are just rolling over.
You dropped this: “/s”
Oh, no, I would never be sarcastic about that. Being sarcastic would mean that I was condoning violence directed at democratically elected officials that are surely doing what the people want and expect them to do, and are fulfilling their duty to the country and constitution.
Traitors. Remember their names and primary them as soon as possible!
There have been some discussions this week about AOC running for Senate to take Schumer’s seat, however 2028 is a long time away.
We won’t make it to then.
Maybe there will be enough support to replace Schumer as the Democratic Senate leader?
Hopefully. But the damage is still done.
There will be another budget vote in September
I don’t think you realize what this “CR” codifies, this pretty much eliminates congressional oversight of the executive, the future of US democracy now lies with the judiciary.
Anyone who has been relying on guardrails to save us, well the guardrails are gone. Any sliver of ambiguity has vanished, you ARE watching a coup take place in real time.
Are you saying this was the last budget vote?
The shutdown will still happen…
This does away with the habitual earmarking of funds, and instead just puts things in a handful of piles.
So they can just not fund parts of the government that they don’t like, and give everything to shit like ICE. CBP, or fucking Teslas.
They didn’t avert a shutdown so much as freely give away what power they had.
Democratic Sens. Richard Durbin (Ill.), Catherine Cortez Masto (Nev.), John Fetterman (D-Pa.), Kirsten Gillibrand (N.Y.), Maggie Hassan (N.H.), Gary Peters (Mich.), Jeanne Shaheen (N.H.) and Brian Schatz (Hawaii) (Nev.) all voted “yes” in addition to Schumer, — as did Maine’s Angus King, an Independent who caucuses with Democrats.
Man I’m sure glad I called Fetterman.
That wasn’t a waste of my goddamn time nosirree
Unfortunately the only thing getting through to Fetterman at this point is more brain damage. What a waste of potential.
“Who else are you gonna vote for” - ten democrats, probably
Some of them are not up for reelection for many years. They might be banking on most people forgetting about this, and they may be right.
They are right. Americans are idiots and we deserve every bit of suffering we’ll get.
Fuck this country.
Let’s not get discouraged and push for the Democratic senators to elect a new leader.
Push them where? Off a cliff? I’m down for that.
My senator doesn’t give a fuck what I think. Elect a new leader? Why? So they can roll over, too?
I’m way the fuck past discouraged. Burn it all.
43 fucking years the Dems have been like this.
Elect a new leader so we get one that will not roll over. When you say burn it all, you do not encompass the damage it will do for generations to come.
Senate democrats have never in my entire life elected a leader who didn’t fold like a cheap card table. I’ve had decades of disappointment and excuses.
Generational damage is already being done. And is being allowed by Senate Democrats being a bunch of feckless assholes.
Big GOP win.
Big
GOPcorporate sex worker win. That’s an insult to sex workers.
Did they even ask for anything? Not that they would have gotten it, I just bet they didn’t even ask for anything
No, they didn’t.
They weren’t even invited to any meeting to ask for anything.
Chuck Schumer is the biggest coward on either side of the Mississippi
Unfortunately 9 Democrats followed him…
Well I expect to hear some real bullshit in my response telling Brian Schatz to publicly fight Chuck Schumer (because I assumed he wasn’t on the "leave the House out to dry nonsense). He’s usually a passable senator, but he’s been more disappointing lately and I’m general he doesn’t really have the fortitude to actually lead on anything.
The one time he actually sticks his neck out and it’s just to be a lapdog for an unpopular decision by leadership.
