Anyone interested in American history should watch Ken Burns Baseball. It’s an excellent documentary series about baseball that’s packed full of fun facts like this. One of my favorite facts I learned was that people sang the Star Spangled Banner at baseball games before it was established as our national anthem. The documentary goes through the history of baseball and how everything that has happened to the sport beautifully depicts everything that has happened in the country’s history through the lens of baseball. For all the good and bad, it’s a great documentary series. 10/10 highly recommend!

My company is making people come back to the office. Then they started laying loads of people off. Now one of our key initiatives for the year is to improve employee retention. Hmmmmmmmmm…

At my previous job, I had a coworker who was hired on after the office decided work from home would be permanent. Everyone in the office was originally from northern Illinois since that’s where the office was, but she lived in rural Iowa in a farm with her husband. She mentioned how she really wasn’t able to get a job like this previously as she would have to commute long distance to the city. And of course she and her husband can’t just pack up the farm and move it closer to her work. So you’re absolutely right! Work from home could very well be the thing that saves small communities that have been largely going off.

I went on a Grand Canyon rafting trip for 6 days this time last year. And yes it regularly gets up to those temps daily. It was an amazing trip, but you had to be on top of hydration as your life literally depended on it. I had a 32oz bottle and my husband had a half gallon bottle and we refilled them constantly throughout the day. Honestly most of the day was quite pleasant assuming you wore appropriate clothing and made sure to get wet in the river regularly. But in the evening, it was so hot from the rocks radiating heat that any breeze just felt like an oven. That was the worst part of the day by far, but that’s also when we would make camp and have fun swimming while waiting for the sun to go down. 12/10 experience if you can keep up with drinking water.

The last apartment I had, the AC was old and would always go out a few times each summer. By the 3rd time, I went to the hardware store looking for a box fan, but they were out and only had an industrial fan that was more expensive, like $40. I bought it out of desperation. But looking back it’s one of the best purchases I’ve ever made. Any time the AC went out, id whip out that metal beast and only ever put it on the first setting because the other 2 settings were way too powerful for an apartment. It’s never given me any trouble over the years and has saved us from some very hot weather. If I had known then how good this fan was, I would have gladly paid more for it. It’s currently being used in our house while we do renovations this summer and it’s working like a charm!

Everyone who can, should switch to a cup and reusable pads. I used to fill our bathroom trashcan overflowing during that time, and I don’t anymore. The cup takes a bit of a learning curve, but becomes second nature. It’s far less wasteful, more sanitary, and doesn’t contain… apparently… Arsenic or lead. Plus, unlike tampons, you can leave it in all day or night and then forget about it. I’ll never look back!!!

Breakfast Stout in the bottle is a damn good stout. But Breakfast Stout on tap is maybe one of the greatest stouts of all time. If I ever see it on a beer menu on tap, I always get it.
