Great, and depressing, read.
In a sane country, the moment billionaires and private corporations attempted to block access to public lands, they would be shut down. And maybe get a visit from some agents.
Of course, that’s not the US. The article itself highlights the irony - when it came to the colonization of the west, the govt. was willing to lay claim over the territory and parcel it out as it saw fit - even when the Native Americans hadn’t given permission. But now? When public use is forcibly being taken away? Nah, the govt. won’t do a thing.
I go by two principles:
If the US/West supports it, then it’s probably a bad thing.
Is American/Western companies support it, then it’s probably a bad thing.
Modi and his BJP are Hindutva fascists - but maybe they’re right on this issue. Who knows. All I know is that if the West is supporting something, then it probably stands to reason that it’s bad.
Not everything. Not on all issues. But generally.
