I don’t disagree yea; it is a bit problematic. When I started this one, I couldn’t find another one. I think this was the first Gamedev community, but perhaps the browse.feddit.de index was just incomplete at the time.
This is probably it. Also ArchiveTeam is archiving Reddit as a high priority target so lots of bots scraping it
Fun fact: a block feature is required to be accepted by the Apple AppStore review process. So Twitter will disappear from Apple devices with this change.
Today it has been https://darkhalo.bandcamp.com/album/phase-shift :3
Oh hey, awesome, thanks! Added it 😎
Oh yessss 65DoS is so good. You might also enjoy ‘God Is An Astronaut’! Pig Powder is a personal favorite.
To be honest it was mostly a combination of using the map editor and modding, similar to how Tactical Ops started out: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tactical_Ops:_Assault_on_Terror
Except I never released something besides playing my custom maps and mods on LAN parties with friends :D
Fun idea. I remember when Twitter was just new, many games added support for the Twitter API to automatically post when you got an achievement and such. That would be more fitting to Mastodon; but just as something that reads from a source to get an update feed, that would totally work.
Awesome! I’ve added it to the list (and joined)!
I don’t use modern Unreal Engine myself but I’ve used the first one a bunch back in 1999 haha.
I figured with how splintered a federated service can become, it might be essential to start a list like this. Feel free to suggest any others you find relevant!
In order of comfort:
Lately I’ve also really been enjoying Sheltered 2.
and horror is a very comforting genre
We are very different people 😀
I do all of my games as open source projects under the GPL 3 license
That is so amazing, thank you. Really cool
Hoping I can publish on Steam
I have not published something on Steam myself yet, but I’ve paid the publishing fee ($100) for a game I’m working on yet, so I can test all the Steam API integration and easily update the game for the few people that help me test. The process seems very straight-forward.
Ooooh I love the idea of a noir detective game with space elements.
Haha my bad. It is also still quite vague in some parts, and I don’t want to pin myself too hard yet :D
But I’m very inspired by games like RimWorld, Factorio and the Shadowrun Returns series, but also games like Hacknet, Sheltered, Zachtronics games and even elements from Rust and Vampire Survivors lol.
Listing them like that makes zero sense, but from some games it’s the specific artstyle or a GUI component, from others its the interaction or gameplay loop. I hope I can mix it together to something unique that will stand out as its own thing.
Thread is totally fine! Thanks! :D
I’m currently writing my own semi-engineless game (I don’t want to say that I’m building my own engine, but I do have some reusability for my own sake) while figuring out SDL2. Not enough defined of the game yet since I’m still learning where to go while working on the tech stack, but I have some ideas inspired by various games to create an unique mix. Will absolutely show it off when I have something to share.
Awesome; I come from business software in C# and with all the people here using Godot I think I should give it a new go some day.
!gamedev@lemmy.blahaj.zone now with proper link :) Tried linking it on mobile using the new Mlem iOS app and managed to crash it. :D
I started !gamedev@lemmy.blahaj.zone for those interested :)
Yes but they won’t count for ranked
