The most prominent LGBTQ+ republican organization is call the Log Cabin Republicans and annually present the “Spirit of Lincoln Award”. They were founded in the '70s so the idea that Lincoln was LGBTQ+ himself has been around for quite some time.

Video tape isn’t really that durable over time. Most of the info I can find comes from digitization services, but they are fairly consistent in saying that, for tapes that are stored in “normal” conditions, you can expect 10-25% degradation in 20 years. These tapes are 40 years old. They have likely degraded significantly already and may fall apart when played.

PA has a closed primary. In closed primaries, people tend to switch their registration in order to effect the primary they see as most impactful. It is not unlikely that the shooter registered as republican to vote against Trump in the primary.

You’re right, it does. He’s pretty unlikely to win in court, but lawyers are expensive. I expect they’ll reach a settlement just to avoid paying lawyers. Journalists aren’t known for having deep pockets to pay legal fees, unfortunately.

There is no prosecutor involved here. She is being civilly sued for defamation. She might go to jail if she defies a subpoena to turn over internal records that include confidential sources.

Overall it seems like the ex governor might actually have a leg to stand on in court, but the bar for defamation is high. I think it’s unlikely that, if this went to court, the ex governor would win. I expect this to be settled before actually being argued in court, though.

Do we know what he was doing before 11am? He has other duties besides preparing for the debate. While probably his most important immediate task, he still needs to take briefings on things like the wars in Ukraine and Gaza, the consequences of recent SCOTUS decisions, and the dumbass shit that Trump said.

I agree that this doesn’t make me feel better about him, but I don’t think that starting debate prep at 11am and taking an afternoon nap means that Biden was slacking off. It may just mean that he’s got other things to worry about.

I don’t usually use much profanity but this is a fucking travesty and the six conservative justices are traitors to the American people. They should all be impeached for blatant corruption and for being bought and paid-for by industry interests. They’re not even going to be embarrassed about their scientific mistake except that they got caught out on not understanding what they’re ruling on. They know they aren’t the experts in everything. They just want corporations to have free reign and for them to be able to trample the rights of citizens.

This is going to allow the courts to rapidly unwind decades of progress that has been made on some of the most important subjects including environmental regulations, workplace regulations and employee rights, antitrust law, and anticorruption law to name a few. Between this and the Jarkesy decision we’re going to go back to the days of burning eyes in Los Angeles and Lake Erie on fire, deadly workplaces and no employee right to organize, anticompetitive corporate practices with no oversight, and rampant corporate fraud. There is no longer a reasonable enforcement mechanism due to Jarkesy and there is now no real rule-making authority.

As I said before, all six conservative justices should be impeached for blatant corruption and working against the best interests of the American people. I’d settle for impeaching Alito and Thomas, but they should all be impeached. They are traitors to the American people.

Does anyone know where I can find a time line of this case? I’m really curious how it took four years to litigate something this egregious. Four years to reach a settlement, not even a litigate court ruling.
