  • “Liberal” can mean centrism, capitalism with a human face, capitalism with some socially progressive elements, etc.

“Leftist” can be anything from “liberal” (as the far-right likes to pretend left=evil), to any form of actual leftism, which also can range from libertarians to authoritarians, with the latter sometimes weirdly being pushed a lot by the right (Fidesz, the Hungarian far-right party masquerading as “moderate, center-right, christian democrats”, have paid off the election debts of Munkáspárt 2006, and now they’re one of their satellites).

    1. A lot of them abstained due to the dems failing to do anything on the state level.
    2. A lot of them who voted just thought the Project 2025 was there to make the libs cry, and no human would be evil enough to execute them all.

Also a lot of Trump voters in the swing states are already regretting, if it continues, it can very well lead to a civil war, especially if Project 2025 will be executed. Who knows, maybe even the military will have issues with it.

  • In a nutshell: If they hit one side of your face, turn the other cheek. Repeat it until both your face fucking hurts and they think it’s violent of you instead not kneeling down, not spreading your arms wide open, not putting your tongue between your teeth, not lifting your chin, so they could just kick your chin while holding you down, until you eventually bite off your tongue. Maybe after that, they will have remorse and not continue kicking you to death on the ground.

They already have “violent vigilante rhetoric”. They send bomb threats to anyone remotely pro-LGBTQ+, because some Jewish collaborant told them they’re grooming kids by their mere existence. The moral high ground won’t save any of us.

You know one of the reasons why they’re calling us “cucks”? Because we will take the moral high ground every time they hit a new low, including on positions we have never really hold. Remember all the “why are you so intolerant of intolerance?” posts? That caused many of us to just go full out tolerant of nazis, to not appear “anti free speech”, which for them means “free from criticism and with a guaranteed audience”, not “free expression until you don’t hurt others”. Hell, at the end days of my “nihilistic edgelord” phase, if I wanted to joke about Stalin alongside of Hitler, I got called out on the former, because the latter “only killed 600 000 (!) people”. (A number from a then common and dumb holocaust denialist theory of “they accidentally put one extra zero there”)

  • Some people are trying their best to avoid politics outside of election season, and a lot of them are taking them in good faith.

When I first voted for Fidesz in 2009 and 2010, I didn’t know about the “Székház ügy” (Hall Controversy - Fidesz sold a hall given to them for crazy amounts of money, which they dumped into media to attack the MSZP government of 1994-1998), and my mother to this day does not want to acknowledge it. People just saw that the MSZP-SZDSZ didn’t do a lot of good, tried to sell our hospitals to for-profit corporations, etc.

Most voters aren’t politically savvy terminally online weirdos, but weirdos that want to hear a story, a narrative.

We need a left-wing populist narrative! Not economic jargon, and also not the kind of leftist rhetoric that terminally online tankies on lemmygrad and hexbear are spouting (most destructive thing that can happen to leftism), but someone who will translate it to the language of the common people.

  • Sure, you might be able to get away with it in case of advanced dementia. When my father was an election watcher, he saw christian fundamentalists trying to convince election officiers, that a man so demented that didn’t even realize what was happening, only that those christian fundamentalists talking about how that man used to be voting for Fidesz allegedly.

  • It’s a lot more complicated. They didn’t even really tried to ratify Roe v. Wade after it got repelled. They just tried to play the moral high ground.

If the democrats had any bravery, they would have at least tried to put it out to vote, then if failed, smear any republican in their way as a “creepy pedophile that wants little girls pregnant”, and “killers of mothers, whose pregnancy went wrong”. That sways moderates way easier than moving to the right, step-by-step. My mother is actually a moderate Fidesz voter, and she’s having second thoughts about her support every time she sees people posting “cry lib”-style gloat, or that the only children the “child protection” laws are protecting are manchildren having meltdowns from seeing “gay” series on the sidebar of Netflix. The common people are swayed by emotions way more than reason. Even I’m more emotional than reasonable. They want to hear a story, not a nerd-talk how your new tax system will improve the economy.
