Reddit GW was taken over by a bunch of power hungry mods who did not care about posters or members in community… So it’s not a model of community that I would advocate emulating wrt “spirit of…”
Unless you are a moderator of a communit(ies), it’s very easy to simply block off accounts you don’t want to see, especially if you yourself know how to detect authentic posters vs “low quality posters”.
True, but at the same time, it may be preferable if you are to adopt some existing/abandoned community, rather than start a potential duplicate one.
Also, volunteer to get onto existing communities - many would totally welcome additions. You could very well become top moderator if you are passionate about the community.
There were/are many communities that have been abandoned by early adopters of lemmyNSFW that likely have moved on… Try to work with the admin team - they are a great bunch 😊
Please keep reading all the way down to the bottom of the sidebar WRT titling…

I’m the new mod of a few hours at !adorableporn@lemmynsfw.com , and i have nothing to hide.
See pinned post https://lemmynsfw.com/post/419923 and comments as I was trying to update the community sidebar from a single line to what you see there now, and get feedback. I even have a “under construction” disclaimer.
Btw, the reference came as I was cut/paste from here https://www.vocabulary.com/dictionary/adorable

I totally understand the situation with anonymous accounts and easy access by minors to all kinds of NSFW and porn sites, but shouldn’t at least some veneer of keeping kids out be put in place?
I don’t understand the benefit of “allowing NSFW without sign in or login”, can you elaborate more? The instance has very good strict rules about underage stuff but how are we ensuring that only adults are able to view NSFW?
Wrt frequency, I would suggest weekly to start, until everything is settled down.
Thanks again for keeping this instance alive and growing 👏👏👏

new !elsajean@lemmynsfw.com would like this too
Is this process still going on? Is there a way to see what comms have gotten nuked - just in case someone wants to resurrect/claim it again? I’m trying to encourage various Reddit mods to come over here…
Very well said. Talented OC creators (including sellers) are always welcomed at communities I moderate here (and on Reddit).
And I gladly nuke spam (very well defined by @hedidwot@lemmynsfw.com in comment ) and spammers (OC or not). Hoping we get better moderation tools and support soon here on Lemmy
Thanks much. This helps. While I personally don’t post other OC’s content, I mod several communities where the content mix will likely become dominated by mostly OC, so your answers are a good guide for future posters into the communities.
Just as an aside, I’ve had the following rule on the OC focused subreddits I have on Reddit, mainly to respect OC creators, and at the same time allows us to weed out karma farmers and repost bots:
from r/butterflywings sidebar NEW- If you find a post of an awesome labia posted by an amateur OC poster, please invite the poster to directly post here. We will no longer allow xposts of such content here, without the OP’s consent. If you already have obtained such consent, please add a comment into the post such as “(x)posted with u/<redditor>'s consent”.
I plan on adding same rule here to various communities I mod.
This is a really great question. From over my 5+ years experience modding on Reddit, we generally know which porn studios don’t DMCA claim (most implicitly do allow some sharing of their content (single images, small galleries, vid clips) as long as studio logo/copyright watermarks are preserved, not cropped out) vs which ones do blanket broad copyright claims.
for example, I have not heard of MetArt network do any claims vs I think we all know about Mindgeeks-owned brands like Brazzers
Of course, the past is not a predictor for the future.
Respect and Consent: Treat all members with respect and obtain consent when sharing explicit content involving others.
Does this mean that we are not allowed to post other OC’s content here without their knowledge/consent? what about crossposting a post that an OC has made in a community to other communities within this instance, what about to places outside of this instance?
What if the person/people involved in the post are not members here of this lemmy instance, but elsewhere in fediverse or websites elsewhere - does it make it ok to post their OC then without consent simply because they are not “members”?
What about unattributed photos/images grabbed off the web. How do we get consent?
[Addition] Are moderators primarily responsible for enforcing this rule and banning/removing content posts? Can moderators be reported/removed from comms for NOT enforcing these rules for posters and by allowing posters to ignore this rule and allow such content in their comms?
Try using imgchest for now as it expands inline and play (unlike redgifs links where you have to click into the post to be able to expand/play inline within Lemmy. Having to navigate back and forth between a post and back main listing page is effectively the same as having to go to redgifs site).
The downside is that imgchest only allows up to 30MB for video clips, so not quite the same quality level as redgifs - but you are also not hampered by redgifs’ lame requirement to provide mandatory “tags”).
Lensdump does not allow videos, afaik. [Addition] Lensdump is good for images, as when you retrieve the Embed image links for posting, you can choose normal or mid-res quality type url. Example
[Update July 9] with 0.18.1 update, redgifs links now can be expanded and played inline, so much better!
Bravo 👍😍
