Certainly. The joke is the phenomenon known as Carcinisation. The idea that ‘everything winds up a crab’ in evolution.

Love your comment.
I actually got curious and tried to fact check this but then realized I had no way of knowing which sites really offered actual advice to such an inane little fact, or were just making shit up. :(
I honestly don’t know. There are a lot of things that happened in my life that sucked. Things I did or things I didn’t do, and far more that were more or less outside my control. The thing is, is that I keep bumping into really good things in life that probably wouldn’t have happened without going through the crap first. A small example is that I worked a crap job, slowly climbed the ladder a bit, worked… okay but it stagnated. We got bought and at the same time I got a job offer elsewhere. Cool–but that job offer turned out to be an absolute nightmare. I jumped ship immediately and came crawling back to my former job.
A lot of pain, a lot of emotional turmoil, wrapped up in ALL of that. But in the end I wound up making more money than ever, and learning new skills that I’m way more passionate about. So a net win. But I did have to go through crap to get here.
This just keeps happening. Over and over, on small scales and big. So as much as I hate the bad stuff, I probably wouldn’t change a thing. I like the good stuff too much.
Absolutely! My reasoning as well. “Elegant” goes with just about everything.
Top right is accurate.
The narcissistic aspect really nails it. These are people who cannot, are probably literally incapable of, seeing past themselves and their own feelings and views. I love how you phrased it as “they see is young people conspiring to not even have to come visit.”
Lots! I’m constantly trying new teas because that’s apparently exciting to me. I’ve done Harney & Sons, Yorkshire, Adagio, a couple of Etsy shops (WildWoodsTea, OpenDoorTeaCT), and ton of local shops (not gonna list to avoid doxxing sorry!)
Comedy. Watch something funny. It’s hard to be anxious and amused at the same time, and at least for me, the amusement wins.
I also have a soft plush that I find soothing but ymmv on that one. I don’t even know why it calms me down, it’s not a childhood toy or anything.
Definitely not now, but before, no. Before I moved out, I was mostly supporting them, using the credit card I opened when I went to college. Took me a long time to work that debt off.
I’m a Salesforce administrator.
Best Part - when I get to sit down and create a cool new feature or automation for my org, something that makes everyone’s lives easier and better.
Worst Part - having to teach users the most basic shit ever, like how to make a simple report.
Special Edition Worst Part - When I know things that my senior admin should know but doesn’t because she doesn’t seem to pay attention to anything she hasn’t directly touched, despite daily standups.
That’s super traumatic! I’m so sorry that happened to you.
Interacting with local people is definitely a good one. If there are any community events, especially recurrent ones, go there!
Mmm sasparilla
There’s something cathartic about seeing a comic character enact over the top violence on someone representing our everyday annoyances and rude people.
And knowing that the community (that I’ve curated anyway) is generally not toxic and overly hostile, especially to civil discourse. That fosters trust that if I engage, I’m not going to be downvoted and socially shunned because of some minor community fixation.
When I moved over I searched for versions of all my reddit communities. Sadly, a lot of them are inactive, but I subbed anyway just in case. Then I went onto all and looked for the top handful that had stuff I liked. Now I mostly stick to my subscribed and flip over to all if I run out.
Glad the librarians care.
I’m surprisingly into it! I’m not much of a major sci-fi person, though I’ve dabbled. It’s a bit harder for me to get into sci-fi in general, and I figured Dune would be a difficult read. But I find it very easy to visualize. Sometimes the random terminology trips me up but I’m still getting the gist enough to enjoy it. I haven’t gotten very far yet so that may change but I think I’m going to like the book.
I bet!! It sounds like you had a truly exhausting day!
To your credit, language is indeed an ever-evolving thing and what words mean what is not a constant, particularly in this age of internet.
Point against you, is that means that a ‘meme’ is largely whatever the majority of people think it is.
