People call 911 because they are having a medical issue, cops show up and shoot them and their dog, plus the neighbors dog for good measure. Shitheads actually attempt a coup, try to hang congress people, invade government offices, somehow only one of them gets shot. It makes 0 sense.

imagine the bloodbath that would have occurred if the crowds had been black / latino etc. or fuck, even college kids…

somehow only one of them got shot… SOMEHOW.

you know that’s a funny word when you look at it - some… how?

like some, a quantity… how, a state or condition… doing a heavy lift that.

it just doesn’t seem to encompass the obvious and outright institutionalized racism displayed that day. angry white people smeared shit inside the capitol and only a single one was shot, and that was it.

oh 4 years later we’re finally getting around to sentencing some of the shit-smear crowd. they should have been rounded up that evening and lived the rest of their lives breaking rocks in leavenworth federal pen on whatever hard labor the government could devise.

I used to think the same thing. How did only one person get shot? Why didn’t they shoot a few people outside of the Capitol and end the whole thing? As soon as a few people would have been shot, the vast majority of those insurrectionists would have ran, right? It’s basically what happened with Babbitt.

After watching a few documentaries, I think there were two reasons. One, the whole thing wasn’t a fluke. It didn’t happen by accident. People didn’t just get riled up. That whole thing was a legit planned and executed attempt by POTUS et al. to conduct a true insurrection while making it seem grassroots. The whole point was to let the crowd get as far as possible to intimidate the certification into caving to Trump. Because of this, they were ordered to not engage with lethal means. Two, they didn’t have the manpower because they were purposely handicapped. Had they opened fire, the wackos with legit firepower in the crowd would have fired back. This thing was a lot more violent than the news reported. There were situations in which officers went in knowing they might die. And in the moment, you don’t have the benefit of hindsight. This could have been a lot worse. The restraint they used was impressive. Now, I’m impressed with how well the Capitol Police handled that insurrection. I think there were officers there that day that history will hold as heroes.

Anyway, yeah, part of why it was so “compassionate” from the police was that the insurrectionists were White. But, they were ordered not to open fire by the same people that would benefit from the insurrection. And, they were handicapped and could have been overran had they opened fire. The fact that the police still prevented the insurrection is a testament to their professionalism and patriotism.

      • Or you know

Could it be that the most prestigious police job, where only the best of the best are taken, protecting the most important people in the country, working for the government who has enough money to spend on their training, actually has well-trained and well-controlled policemen?

Could it be that an institution that is notorious for how incredibly federalized (federalized = decentralized != with the federal government) it is doesn’t have the same quality everywhere?

they literally barricaded and fell back as far as they could.

watch the footage, so many times, cops put their hands on their sidearms, then fall back.

compare that to footage of occupy, of the atlanta cop city protests, any violent reactions on campuses etc., - is there a qualitative difference in them? maybe? but not enough to explain the disparity in violent, over-reaction.

But hasn’t been prosecuted nearly severely enough. Max sentence I’ve seen is 4y with most of these traitors getting off with months instead.

It was an attempted coup. Sure it failed but the first Nazi coup also failed and they were let off easy then tried again successfully.

Yep. All people need to do is remove themselves from the gene pool. Often that involves removing themselves from the count of the living, but some just sterilize themselves in some stupid way.

          Darwin Awards

An “award” given to people who contribute the most to the evolution of humanity by removing their genes from the gene pool. Sometimes given to people who simply sterilize themselves, but most of the recipients have ended up dead because of their actions.

Basically, the concept is that people kill/injure themselves to the point where reproduction is no longer possible whilst doing something surrealistically stupid. By insuring that their stupid genes do not spread, they ultimately help humanity and thus recieve an award.

While the concept is funny enough, the actual awards are usually very mean spirited.

Since the award is for removing your ability to spread your genes, any self-inflicted stupid act that resulted in, eg castration, should be considered eligible.

Perhaps I’ve misinterpreted your usage of “last line of defense”?

These aren’t regular conservatives that we’re dealing with. MAGA is a fascist movement. The MO of fascists is to gain and hold power for their in-group by *any means necessary*. While it should never be our first option, we need to be willing and able to violently resist them, because they sure as hell don’t have any qualms about violently subjugating us.

For good measure, let’s posthumously pardon the Nazis that murdered hundreds or thousands of people and were later killed when their camps were taken. They were just victims of the Nazi extremism indoctrination and media, it’s a bit distasteful that people still slander them /s

I think you’re overlooking the potential.

I don’t give up on anybody because they all have the potential to have their Ebenezer Scrooge moment and change until they no longer have any moments.

The potential for Ashlii Babbitt to become a good and upstanding contributing member of society was lost because of her blind following of the orange turd.

That is her fault. It’s still a sad thing.

I feel bad for her but I feel worse for the person who felt like they had no other choice but to shoot that woman, and I am glad that it only took one bullet to stop the insurrection.

This guy famously just provides reputation rehab for KKK members.

He doesn’t talk Klansmen out of their hateful ways. He absolves them on behalf of Black people so they can pretend to be reformed and get jobs again. He’s doing them a service, and they frequently pay him for it.

It’s like the real life version of the “With Apologies to Jesse Jackson” episode of South Park, where Randy says the N-word on TV, and expects the world to forgive him after he literally kisses Jesse Jackson’s ass as an apology. (Spoiler: this doesn’t work)

I’m not a fan of letting fascists take off their uniforms and return to normal life like they didn’t do anything. I’m more of an Inglorious Basterds kinda guy…

Interesting, this is the first I’ve heard of the “reputation rehab” angle on the guy. Do you have any further reading you could link me to?

Rather than going full Inglorious Basterds, I think it’s important to have both “carrot” and “stick” options for these people. It doesn’t really do us any good if there’s no way to come back from having been involved in hate groups. Just make sure to keep the Richard Spencer treatment available, to provide them some motivation to get their heads right.
