So how do we break the cycle of Dems never getting enough power to do more than slap a band aid on things? Keep voting for them like I have for decades? Because that’s been working so fucking well.

And maybe if they acted like a goddamn opposition party Republicans wouldn’t be able to wreck shit with a bare majority. Like maybe don’t hand Donald Trump a blank check.

Get MORE people to vote for Democrats, it’s not rocket science. It’s not some great mystery. The party that gets more votes wins.

Why is that my problem? Shouldn’t the Democratic Party be doing that already? Isn’t that why they’re always begging for money? Wasn’t that what the billion dollars they wasted fighting Trump was for?

Why even have a political party if it’s up to individuals to do this?

Because that’s how the concept of democracy works. It’s not like a fucking Doordash order you can make. “Hello I’d like one democracy please”. If you’re a citizen, it’s your problem. You want your people or your policies to win, then you have to convince people to vote for them.

And to do that you pool your resources, right? In some kind of poltical “party” that employs experts to have the greatest effect, right?

And if that political party can’t win enough elections to gain power, is it doing its job or just wasting my time and money?

              its job

It’s not a vending machine or a listing on Amazon. It’s not a company that exists to provide you a service. If it has the money and the volunteers and the messaging, it convinces people and it wins. If it doesn’t, it doesn’t.

The democrats had a billion dollars in the last election and still lost to a semiliterate buffoon.

They have the money. They had the volunteers. And they still lost.

Maybe how they’re using that money and volunteer effort is broken? Nah, it’s my fault for not giving them every last dime and quitting my job to go knock on doors.

That is a problem. Republicans have captured the media. I agree that the only possible way forward for Democrats at this point is to recapture the media. All the money and policies in the world won’t matter if Republicans can spew propaganda uncontested.

It’s also a bit of a bigger issue that people are so gullible, but I don’t think we can fix that any time soon.
