Had a crappy costume for 10 bucks. Went to a friend’s place, then to a party. Left at 3am. Good night overall.

Went out for a stroll, through the entertainment areas, lots of interesting costumes, heavily favoring sexy costumes. But some creative ones as well.

Spent it in the Pediatric ICU, but little guy won Bingo and looked dapper in his space pilot costume (completed by his medically-necessary oxygen mask) and the candy came to him via costumed parade. Would rather have been out of the hospital and with my other two kids, but given the circumstances it went as well as it could.

Don’t really celebrate it here. However, quite relevantly, I was working on some truly spooky stuff at the time: filesystem stuff to do with my home data centre. Particularly, NFS+ZFS and figuring out to use “async”. And also learning that it is possible to saturate the IO utilisation of SSDs in a mirrored zpool if you’re really not watching where you put things

    Yes, very spooky indeed.

The previous two years we lived on the corner of two main roads. We put out a massive display each year, and since everyone could see it based on the location, word spread and kids came from far and wide. We had 400+ kids each of the past two years.

In the year we moved to another neighborhood. We’re now deep inside the neighborhood and not on any main road. We’re actually on a dead end, so you would need to turn down our street to see our house. We expected very few kids for this reason.

Surprisingly, we actually had quite a bit of kids despite that! Not anywhere near 400+, but maybe 100?

After that, I made pumpkin seeds in the air fryer, which was really good. And we watched a Halloween movie. It was a pretty decent night.

It was great, I DJ did a Halloween party and then I went home to play pokemon.

Then it was terrible, because my dock fried my switch and I don’t know if I can recover the save data

Had a nice walk around with my daughter. A few of the houses that were a bit more…dressed up proved too scary for her and there was a somewhat awkward instance where she’d ran off to her mum after I’d knocked…but that aside it was alright actually.

    Still don’t love it mind.

Walked the old traditional route with 2 family kids age 10 and 8. Only about 1/4 of the houses on the block were participating but several of the ones that did had a great display. More people were sitting at the end of their driveway with setups and bowls of candy. Temperature was cold but it wasn’t bad while wearing layers. Oh, and a county ambulance was roaming the area stopping to hand out candy which was sorta cool.

Quiet! Had my favorite Lebanese takeout, and Voodoo Rangers pumpkin beer that was on hand. Some excellent sports news dropped so we freaked out about that for a while lol. After that we picked Hellraiser and Saint Maud for scary movies, and enjoyed a Balvenie scotch. :)

It was good, even though I don’t celebrate it in the sense of everyone else. Halloween is also kind of foiled here, it’s always cold enough by Halloween time that people need to wear outerwear over their costumes, so if your little kid isn’t going as a character from a slice-of-life TV show (unless they can shoehorn a completely human character from an otherwise fantasy show; they often do this anyways in order to sneak wearing a costume in an environment where costume wearing isn’t typically a thing), they’ll definitely be complaining the only version of Spock they could dress up as is the time he was one of the Ice Climbers. Dressing accordingly, I dressed up as the villain from the newest Pokémon game.

We handed out candy to lots of trick or treaters. We didn’t run out of candy this year probably because Halloween landed on a cold Tuesday night.
