It hurt a little bit.

It’s ok now.

So, according to the nurse’s hotline I called when I got a 2nd degree burn on my finger, you’re always supposed to have a doctor check it out ASAP if it’s worse than 1st degree and on the finger. Apparently it’s really easy for finger burns to fuck up your hand function long term. My doctor was unimpressed when I showed her, but if it’s a second degree (any bubble-blisters) it’s probably not a bad idea to get it seen.

remembers welding class, laughs out loud

Acetylene torch in one hand, filler rod in the other. I finished running a bead, set my filler rod down, the tip still glowing red hot. I turned the torch off, and then, eyes on the bead I had just run, inspecting it, I reached for my pliers to pick it up. I had set the filler rod very close to the pliers, close enough that my thumb touched it.

I didn’t feel it; I heard and smelled it. Made my way over to the sink to run it under some cold water. It didn’t bubble or blister, I just had a 2 or 3 mm deep ashen white grill mark across my thumb. The wildest part is it healed perfectly, not even a hint of a scar.

Nothing like the sizzle before you feel it, or the crunch when the razor bites hard.

“Oh. That’s going to hurt in just a few seconds.”

Or when you see the damage before feeling it. Broke a glass washing the other day, skin popped open, “That is going to bleed, a lot.” LOL, couldn’t hardly get that one under control, slung blood everywhere.

The only time I’d say to worry is if it’s a circumferential burn. If it’s all the way around the finger. That can cut blood flow to the skin beyond that point and cause permanent damage.

I weld and do fabrication at work constantly. If I went to the hospital for every little burn I’d be there weekly.

That being said I’m no doctor, but I do still have all of my fingers.

I do suspect the hotline errs on the side of caution, not wanting any consequences if I didn’t go in based on their advice and lost a finger or something. But they’ve also told me I’m fine to stay home before in different situations so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

If the bubble is like 3 mm in size I kind of doubt that anything could ever happen. In other words: Size matters, no matter how bad you get burned. Half you body first degree? I assume you could die from that.

Alocane. That stuff is magic for burns as far as I’m concerned. Kills the pain instantly and does wonders for healing the skin.

My left hand had a hell of a night too, small kitten decided to freak out. While I was holding her. It was a lot of bandages, but they seem to be better now.

You really shouldn’t do that, ya know? 😁

    Ouch.

If you can find it without a prescription, Silvadeen (silver impregnated cream) is magic for burns

Ouch. I just got an air fryer and was surprised to see how the heating element is just sorta tucked up right there waiting for someone to reach in at the wrong angle.

Did you touch the heating element or part of the basket?
