It has to be a sand race because the Cybertruck gets completely disabled from moisture.
Finally we’ve found the perfect car for Ben Shapiro’s wife
Ben Shapiro’s Doctor wife
FTFY
I’m out of the loop on this one…?
A cyber truck had a major malfunction and stopped working because it went into a car wash without being in “car wash” mode. The joke is that Cybertrucks cannot get wet.
They also rust, like, instantly.
Because the stainless steel is not stainless and a protective coating is optional, not standard like… you know, on every other car.
Stainless steel that gets coated is no longer stainless steel. Stainless steel requires exposure to sufficient oxygen in order to maintain the protective oxide layer.
These are rudder bolts from the same gudgeon on my sailboat. The black stuff is anoxic corrosion.
TIL.
I suppose that’s why nobody makes car body panels out of it.
Well, it’s very meaningful to continue to support your emotional support corporations. They need us as much as we need them. That’s why you need to buy the product, and the “continued use” package. They’re not charging extra for standard things just to charge extra. It’s about the continued closeness in your relationship with daddy Tesla.
And will get stained by tree sap. You should avoid the extreme use-case of parking near trees.
It’s also why I love the fact that it has a tent accessory, despite being a car that can’t handle being outside.
Except it doesn’t. It’s not the body panels that are rusting. It’s the airborne iron particles (mostly) from brake rotors that land on the stainless steel and react with it causing rust but it’s actually just surface contamination and cleans up rather easily. This is in no way issue exclusive to the Cybertruck. It just doesn’t react like that on a painted surface. Fallout remover is a commonly used product among car detailers.
Which is doubly funny when you remember Elon claimed at one point the Cybertruck could be used as a boat.
Ah… If I remember correctly; not being in a carwash mode caused the screen to freeze and because of a bug the hard reset took hours instead of minutes. The car was back up and running the next day and I believe the bug has been patched as well
EDIT: Imagine the bubble you’re in when downvoting factual information is the norm.
That’s not something that should happen to a car that is on the road.
Technically a car wash is not the road. Checkmate, atheists.
Waiting for the day we see the advisement to put the Tesla into carwash mode during heavy rainfalls.
But the Cybertruck is advertised as an off-road vehicle. Elonvangelists in shambles.
deleted by creator
It did not. The vehicle was in the owner’s garage. I believe it was water in the charging port that caused the front screen to freeze up. Everything else was working normally.
That doesn’t improve things.
And by production car on the road I mean “by a car that is in production and allowed to drive on the road” though I admit it was vague and easy to take literally in that regard.
My “car wash mode” is rolling up the windows, haven’t ever had the car I own brick itself on me.
Personally I would enjoy spending $100k+ to get to be the beta tester for a half-baked product
Don’t worry, the guy who came up with the Idea was fully baked
wow. does the factory that made it have absolutely no quality control processes in place? I would be embarrassed to own a vehicle that did that, and more than a little worried about its safety.
Unacceptable behavior for a vehicle.
Its embarrassing that people are downvoting a post providing context. They’re acting like you are here defending the cyber truck.
Model Ys don’t handle the rain: https://www.carexpert.com.au/car-news/scottish-couple-facing-33k-repair-bill-after-driving-tesla-in-heavy-rain
Thank you for the fact check
complaining about downvotes usually gets you more downvotes more often than not
It’s not the downvotes that’s the issue. It’s the insanity of being blinded by hatred to the point of not being able to think straight anymore.
you might disagree with me here, but IMO hating Musk (or any billionaire) is morally right though
Hate is a toxic emotion. It poisons your own mind but leaves the target of it unaffected.
Also as I don’t believe in free will, hate is an uncompatible concept with my world view anyway. It assumes the person I’m directing my anger towards is personally responsible for who they are. In my view they could not be otherwise. I wouldn’t hate a bear for being violent so I also don’t hate Musk for being an asshole.
It rusts under the rain
You forgot to turn on Rain Mode
I saw one painted this weekend. Is the factory finally painting them or is it aftermarket?
I’ve seen people putting wraps on them as well in my city. Probably trying to hide the rust since it’s rains quite a bit here
Yeah but surely not to the point of getting disabled?
oh, they shut off in the rain too.
Nonsense design vanity project made for toddler CEO underperforms in comparison to actual pickup designed and built by manufacturer of the top selling pickup… who would have guessed.
I bet Musk thought he was a genius that could revolutionize trucks, just like Apple revolutionized smartphones.
I admit I still think the model S was pretty cool originally, but now there are better offers IMO, BMW and Audi have some very nice upper middle class cars, that I doubt very much Tesla can match the quality of. If money is not a problem, I’d go with a Mercedes. For a cheaper practical everyday car, I’d go with VW or Hyundai. But goddam I just tried my neighbors BMW I4- eDrive 40, that’s an amazing car with great range IMO. I’ve never been in a car that was that silent smooth and comfortable, and yet had stellar grip and handling. Even when you fired it up with everything it has, it was still quiet, you just felt the pressure of acceleration in the back. 😋
Well that BMW i4 is almost as smooth as this Marlboro cigarette that I’m enjoying right now.
I tell you, nothing helps relax you more than unwinding with a Marlboro cigarette. The rich full flavour and slow toasted leaves with the extra fine filter ensures I get the best experience. Every time.
Marlboro. It’s what Lemmy users prefer™
Got big Mad Men vibes from this.
Smoking is dumb as shit dude
I think they’re suggesting the BMW comment reads like an ad by responding like an ad.
Ahhh I’m dumb as shit dude
Sounds like you don’t smoke cigarettes, so not that dumb!

That explains why Elon suddenly came out against drag 😉
…bravo.
No shit, the Cybertruck can’t offroad.
Cybertruck cant really truck. Turns out its just hot wheels for man-children.
Turns out its just hot wheels for man-children.
Like 90% of the point of hot wheels was looking cool, so I have to respectfully disagree
My six year old thinks it looks cool. If you adjust for hot wheels demographics I think they’re golden
A cold wheels, then?
That’s what the majority of (sedans masquerading as) trucks are used for anyway.
Pavement Princess or emotional support vehicle. Really hate the area I live in currently, my street is cluttered with them.
I am starting to see them as well makes me glad seeing how battered my Honda Civic looks these days. My car got shit done all those trucks were just there as a penis size compensation device
Yeah my golf gets most shit moved, really want a tow ball installed so I don’t need to steal my partner’s car for heavier / larger jobs.
Diesel euro wagon gang here.
I’ve used them to move, to haul furniture or copious amounts of firewood… And 2 out of the 3 I’ve owned have had ridiculous mileages put on them by previous owners, while still maintaining reliability as far as the powertrain is concerned (admittedly, I’ve had to deal with minor electric issues and obviously I’ve replaced some control arms and tie rods).
Thought trucks were cool when I was a kid, but now I just don’t see them being practical or economical enough considering the last year of my life has involved an average of 1000 km weekly.
Similar to, but not quite the same as the kind of man-child that buys an F-150 on the off chance they need to haul a dresser once every 4 years. Seriously though, if each one of these buyers keeping US truck bloat in style bought a motorcycle instead to cement their self-worth, traffic would be eliminated in most US cities. That’s not possible due to many factors, I know, but it must be said motorcycles are just way cooler.
Problem then is, You Still gotta buy a truck to buy and haul your 2nd motorcycle, your 3rd motorcycle, your dirt bike, and your track bike.
And the truck-boat-truck carried on the tow bar
And the truck-boat-truck-boat-jetski
Once in Bangkok I watched as three people loaded a dresser on a motorcycle, got him started, and then watched him drive off. It was balanced perpendicular.
Remember thinking that I would pay money to see this in the US. So freaken cool.
These insecure babies would never get on a motorcycle, it’s too dangerous.
Most F150 owners also own a fart rocket
Is this podracing?
They filled the truck beds with a bunch of fish. It’s actually cod racing.
Actually they filled the truck beds with grass-covered surface soil. It’s actually sod racing.
Wrong again, they filled both trucks with metal poles, this is rod racing.
Still wrong, the beds are obviously empty. Only some people can enter this race, this is Todd racing.
Turns out the beds are filled with the discarded shells from shucking peas. This is Pod Racing…
Nah, they actually filled them with collectible cardboard bottle caps. This is POG Racing
It was a convoluted Dutch smuggling operation, the event was a cover. This is clog racing.
The bed of each truck is filled with a family of dolphins. This is pod racing.
Now THIS is pod racing.
I do appreciate the fact that the Cybertruck was so clearly designed by someone who had no idea how to design a car, and that it’s Musk’s pet project. It really drives another nail in the coffin of the idea that he deserves all the credit for the work his companies do.
Then again, his most die-hard supporters draw no distinction between ownership and labor. They’re also somehow able to look at a Cybertruck and think “Wow!” rather than “Wow, is this some kind of a joke?”
I used to kinda like it because it was wrong and dumb, but I’d only ever get a horribly ugly statement car if it combined terrible aesthetics with good performance and build quality.
Man, that last part…
I honestly think owners of these things are just edgelords. It’s #notliketheothergirls for desperate, middle-aged men.
Suburban moms: i cant get an EV, what if i need to do sand drag racing
Sand drag racing at the end of a long road trip. It’s just not practical!
in sand, weighing 2000 pounds more matters. so does grappler tires.
Yes, this race was already lost on paper. The execution frankly was likely just an excuse for some folks to dust off their Maga hats and crack open some beers.
I mean I’m more of a car guy so trucks and off roading aren’t my specialty but a vehicle built by a company that’s done it for a century vs a pissboy.
Shocker…
Wait the cybertruck doesn’t even have all wheel drive?
Of course it has all wheel drive, the RWD version isn’t in production for quite some time.
You are right thanks for the correction. I misinterpreted this line
However, I’ve got to think here the big differentiator here was the Lightning’s all-wheel-drive system, which is almost certainly better at tacking loose surfaces than the Cybertruck’s.
I hate the Cybertruck as much as the next guy, but this could really boil down to just tire choice and nothing more.
Good point. As I understand it, the Cybertruck’s stock tires are not, in fact, a good tire choice.
https://jalopnik.com/cybertrucks-keep-getting-stuck-in-snow-1851148697
Cyber truck stock anything isn’t a good choice.
It’s more pedestrian safe than the other one in the video
no idea what models of truck these were if the drivers were good at drag racing
What? This is extremely poor phrasing if you ask me.
To be fair to the Cybertruck, we’ve got no idea what models of truck these were, if the drivers were good at drag racing and driving on sand, or even how long the race was.
Honestly, the sentence just needs some punctuation and it’s fine.
Who else watched this and thought of the jailbreak scene at the beginning of The Goonies?

The point is to save car dependency, not the planet.
So the Cybertruck is not that fast and the CEO of the company that makes it is a jamoke, big deal. At least it looks stupid.
